Types of Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty) Procedures | Pasadena | BreaEyes are the most sensitive part of the body, and any cosmetic surgery involving the eyes should preferably be performed by a fully trained and qualified surgeon only. Eyelid surgery, clinically known as blepharoplasty, is a procedure designed to rejuvenate the lower and upper eyelids, tighten loose skin and eliminate the appearance of under eye bags.

Dr. Daniel Lin is a board certified plastic surgeon providing eyelid surgery and various other surgical and non-surgical cosmetic procedures. Patients in West Covina, Inland Empire, San Gabriel Valley, Chino, Rowland Heights, Baldwin Park, Whittier, Brea, Arcadia, Pasadena, Diamond Bar, and surrounding locations have an opportunity to receive state of the art eyelid surgery procedures from Dr. Lin.

Lower Blepharoplasty

Lower eyelid surgery is a procedure aimed at minimizing or redistributing excess fat tissue that may have accumulated under the eye. If the skin below the lower eyelid is sagging, it can also be tightened by removing excess skin to create a firmer and more youthful surface above the cheek. In some cases, the surgoen may be combined lower blepharoplasty cosmetic surgery with fat transfer or injectable procedures such as facial fillers to fill hollows under the eye.

Sometimes the lower eyelids may be drooping because of weakened underlying muscles. These muscles can be tightened as part of lower eyelid surgery. The incision to perform this procedure will be made along the natural skin creases around the lower eyelids to minimize visible scarring.

Upper Blepharoplasty

The appearance of droopy, inflated upper eyelids can be corrected with upper eyelid surgery through the excision of loose skin and fat tissue. The surgeon will create an incision along the natural creases of the upper lid to trim away saggy skin that may be contributing to the tired or droopy look of the eyes.

Through the same incision, the surgeon may also reposition or tighten the underlying muscles. Once the loose skin is removed, the surgeon will lift and reattach the remaining skin smoothly to create a younger looking upper eyelid. The incisions will then be closed with fine sutures.

Transconjunctival Blepharoplasty

Sometimes the patient may only require reduction of excess fat pockets around the eyelids, while the eyelid skin may still be fairly supple and elastic. In such cases, the surgeon may recommend transconjunctival eyelid surgery. This is a less invasive technique, which may used when the under eye bags are less obvious.

Several tiny incisions will be created inside the lower eyelid to perform this procedure. Through the incisions, the surgeon will remove excess fat tissue to create a rejuvenated appearance of lower eyelids. Skin removal or muscle tightening is not involved in this procedure. The procedure does not cause external scarring because the incisions are placed inside the eyelid. Recovery is faster because the procedure is less invasive.
