Accumulation of excess fat and loose or wrinkled skin in the abdomen is a common problem for both women and men. This condition can be effectively corrected with tummy tuck or tummy lift cosmetic surgery procedures. These surgeries can produce a smoother, firmer, and flatter abdomen for people who are unable to achieve the desired aesthetic results with diet or exercise.

Dr. Daniel Lin of Shine Cosmetic Surgery is an experienced plastic surgeon providing both tummy tuck or abdominoplasty and tummy lift procedures. Dr. Lin receives patients from West Covina, Inland Empire, San Gabriel Valley, Chino, Rowland Heights, Baldwin Park, Whittier, Brea, Arcadia, Pasadena, Diamond Bar, and surrounding communities.

Tummy Tuck Surgery

Tummy tuck is popular cosmetic surgery procedure that is designed to achieve more comprehensive results. The procedure may be performed on the lower abdominal area or both lower and upper abdomen. In a traditional tummy tuck technique, the surgeon will remove excess fat tissue and loose skin through a horizontal hip to hip incision.

If the underlying abdominal muscles are weak or separated, the surgeon may tighten these muscles as a part of tummy tuck surgery. For some patients, tummy tuck surgery may be performed in conjunction with liposuction for better outcomes. The surgeon will determine the appropriate surgical technique to perform full or partial abdominoplasty, depending on the unique needs of a patient.

Tummy lift procedure can sometimes be a part of tummy tuck, particularly if the repositioning of the belly button is involved. Dr. Lin is an experienced tummy tuck plastic surgeon who will determine the optimal surgical plan for his patients. Dr. Lin provides tummy tuck to patients in West Covina, Inland Empire, San Gabriel Valley, Chino, Rowland Heights, Baldwin Park, Whittier, Brea, Arcadia, Pasadena, Diamond Bar, and nearby areas.

Tummy Lift Surgery

Tummy lift surgery is relatively less invasive and involves reduced risk and shorter recovery period. If a candidate only has excess skin in the abdominal area, which may occur following a major weight loss or other reasons, a tummy lift may be performed to regain a tighter, smoother abdomen. Weak lower abdominal muscles may also be tightened as a part of tummy lift. Abdominal wall muscles around the belly button may also be tightened along with tummy lift.

Procedure

Tummy lift primarily involves surgery below the navel. The procedure will begin with the surgeon placing an incision diagonally in the lower abdomen. Through the incision, excess skin will be removed. Abdominal muscles that are stretched under the navel will also be tightened and bounded together to provide firmness to the abdomen.

The tummy lift surgery can usually be completed in about one to two hours. Both tummy tuck and tummy lift may be performed using general anesthesia in most cases. The procedure may be performed on an outpatient basis. Tummy lift procedure is typically less drastic as compared to a full tummy tuck surgery. Scarring, pain, risk of complications and the downtime involved are lower in case of a tummy lift for most patients.
