Your Eyelid Surgery Consultation

by Dr. Daniel Lin

Your Eyelid Surgery ConsultationWhen a person is considering a cosmetic surgery procedure to improve the eyelid appearance, they should schedule a consultation with a dedicated surgeon of their choice. The consultation will lay the foundation for a successful surgery, and will allow the surgeon to create a customized eyelid surgery plan.

The patient will have the opportunity to learn all about eyelid surgery and make an educated decision. Board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Daniel Lin provides eyelid surgery and other aesthetic procedures to patients in West Covina, Inland Empire, San Gabriel Valley, Chino, Rowland Heights, Baldwin Park, Whittier, Brea, Arcadia, Pasadena, Diamond Bar, and surrounding locations.

Patient Education

During the consultation process, the surgeon will explain to the patient about various aspects of eyelid surgery and discuss the surgical techniques and options available in their case. The patient should ask questions to clear all their concerns and doubts about the procedure, and also discuss about the expected costs and financing options available. Learning about the procedure will improve the patient’s confidence and prepare them better for the surgery.

Surgical Goal Setting

One of the key concerns of the surgeon during the eyelid cosmetic surgery consultation will be to understand why the patient wants to receive this procedure, and what about their eyes may be making them unhappy. Once the patient’s personal aesthetic needs and goals are clear to the surgeon, they will be able to create a customized surgical plan to meet those goals in the least invasive manner.

Assessing the Patient’s Health

The surgeon will go through the patient’s medical records to determine their fitness for eyelid surgery. They will examine the patient’s eye anatomy, skin type and degree of laxity in the eyelid area, and look for any untreated eye or skin infection. The patient should be prepared to share accurate information about any specific lifestyle habits such as smoking or drinking, and provide a list of currently used prescription and non-prescription medications.

The patient should also apprise the surgeon if they have had an eye surgery previous, including LASIK. In some cases, the surgeon may order additional diagnostic tests or seek medical clearance from the physician. Experienced plastic surgeon Dr. Lin receives patients from West Covina, Inland Empire, San Gabriel Valley, Chino, Rowland Heights, Baldwin Park, Whittier, Brea, Arcadia, Pasadena, Diamond Bar, and nearby areas.

Detailed Instructions

To prepare the patient for the surgery as well as post-surgical recovery, the surgeon will provide a set of instructions. If the patient is a smoker, they will be required to refrain from smoking for a certain period of time prior to the eyelid procedure. The surgeon may change the schedule or some of the current medications or stop certain drugs for a while in consultation with the physician.

The surgeon or their staff will advise the patient to arrange in advance for transportation to return home after the eyelid surgery. If the patient is working, they will be advised to apply for a week’s leave in advance. If necessary, the patient may also arrange for aftercare for a few days to have a more comfortable post-op recovery.
