10 Tips to Prepare for Plastic Surgery | Chino Cosmetic SurgeryPatients who prepare well for the cosmetic surgery procedure will usually go through a less complicated surgery and have a better recovery. Board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Daniel Lin provides various procedures for the breast, body and face to patients in West Covina, Inland Empire, San Gabriel Valley, Chino, Rowland Heights, Baldwin Park, Whittier, Brea, Arcadia, Pasadena, Diamond Bar, and surrounding locations.

Schedule your Surgery Appropriately

The advantage with an elective procedure is that you can usually choose your own timings. Schedule your surgery at a time when you are faced with least amount of stress, workload and other distractions. Select a period of relatively good health, which will allow your immune system to give the best chance for a speedy recovery.

Fortify your Diet with Nutrients

Choose concrete dietary supplements to support your immune system and health before and after the cosmetic surgery. In consultation with your surgeon, consider supplements of Vitamin A, Vitamin C, copper, zinc and selenium. A strong diet will help to reduce the risk of infection.

Increase the Intake of Lean Proteins

Your body will need extra protein to build new blood vessels and tissue, repair injured tissue and promote the production of cells that work for wound repair. Choose protein-rich foods such as fish, poultry, lean meats, and beans and legumes.

Stop Taking Herbal Supplements

Many herbal supplements may contribute to adverse reactions during or after the surgery. Interference with anesthesia, prolonged bleeding, cardiovascular instability and unwanted drug interactions may occur with such supplements. Stop using them at least two weeks before and after the surgery.

Use Arnica Montana

Arnica Montana is a time tested homeopathic medication that will help to reduce bruising and swelling in the soft tissue following the surgery. Arnica is available for both oral and topical use, and is particular useful for facial surgeries and injectable procedures. Use this treatment in consultation with the surgeon.

Stay Adequately Hydrated

Stay well-hydrated in the days preceding the surgery. Drink at least six to eight glass of water a day, and particularly on the day before the surgery. However, do not drink water for at least eight hours before surgery, unless directed otherwise by the surgeon.

Do not Use Blood Thinners

Discontinue the use of aspirin and any other related blood thinners at least two weeks prior to the surgical procedure. These anti-coagulants can promote bleeding during the surgery, and pose increased risk of complications.

Stop Smoking

The surgeon will require you to stop smoking at least two to four weeks prior to the plastic surgery. Smoking inhibits healing because the repair cells in the body receive less oxygen. Smokers will typically have a higher risk of complications during surgery.

Involve in Relaxation Techniques

Listen to soothing music, join a yoga class, or meditate to reduce stress before the surgery. You may continue these techniques during recovery for more benefit.

Create a Support Structure

Enlist support of family and friends to mitigate stress at the time of surgery. They can offer emotional support as well as help with household chores for the first few days.
