Things You Must Do Before Getting Breast Implant Surgery

Things You Must Do Before Getting Breast Implant Surgery | PasadenaBreast implant cosmetic surgery is a major procedure, which will involve a few days of downtime for a safe recovery. Patients can make the recovery period easier by following a few thoughtful tips.

Sagacious and board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Daniel Lin  of Shine Cosmetic Surgery provides breast augmentation to patients in West Covina, Inland Empire, San Gabriel Valley, Chino, Rowland Heights, Baldwin Park, Whittier, Brea, Arcadia, Pasadena, Diamond Bar, and surrounding locations in California.

Bring Serenity to Your Home

Low stress, serene environs at home will help the patient heal better. Simple things such as clearing the laundry basket in advance and placing items of daily necessity in lower shelves (to avoid raising arms) can be a big help.

Create a Recovery Station

The patient can set up a small ‘recovery station’ on her bedside table, stocked with essentials such as water bottles, wipes and tissue, lip balm, pain meds, TV remote, and mobile phone. This will make life easier in the first few days after breast implant plastic surgery.

Arrange for Extra Pillows

In the first three to four days after the surgery, the patient should try to rest in an upright position at a 45 degree angle to mitigate swelling and bruising. Extra pillows will provide the required support and comfort to accomplish this.

Buy Arnica Montana and Cocoa Butter

The herbal supplement Arnica Montana, taken with the surgeon’s approval, may help to improve bruising and swelling. Gentle shea or cocoa butter based lotions after a shower can help moisturize dry and flaky skin that may occur in the incision sites.

Arrange for Child and Pet Care

Patients with little babies or pets can have an easier recovery if they arrange in advance for someone who can provide the necessary care during the first few days after breast implant surgery.

Freeze Food Ahead of Time

If the patient does her own cooking, she may make and freeze some of her favorite dishes prior to the surgery. She should also stock up on easy to prep meals. Alternatively, she may request a relative or friend to help with cooking in the first two to three days.

Get Comfortable with the Surgical Bra

The surgeon will require the patient to wear a special surgical bra for a few weeks after the procedure. This will be followed by a sports bra without underwire. The patient can check the special bra beforehand and get familiar with using it as per the surgeon’s advice.

Keep Ice Packs Ready

In the first 48 hours after the breast implant surgery, the patient will need to use ice therapy to reduce some swelling and pain in the incision areas. It is prudent to keep one or two ice packs in advance in the freezer.

Arrange for Loose Fitting Clothes

In the first week after breast implant surgery, the patient can be more comfortable in loose fitting clothes with buttons or zipper in the front. This will avoid unnecessary strain on the incisions while wearing or removing clothes.
