Laser Tattoo Removal

Laser Tattoo Removal | Pasadena Plastic Surgery | Whittier | ArcadiaPermanent tattoos can be removed or lightened without involving cosmetic surgery by using the laser technique. Permanent tattoos of all sizes, shapes, and colors can be removed, but the results will vary from one patient to another depending on various factors.

Board certified and amazing plastic surgeon Dr. Daniel Lin provides laser tattoo removal procedure to patients in West Covina, Inland Empire, San Gabriel Valley, Chino, Rowland Heights, Baldwin Park, Whittier, Brea, Arcadia, Pasadena, Diamond Bar, and surrounding communities.

Overview

To perform permanent tattoo removal, the laser expert will deliver targeted laser energy into the affected area. The laser energy will penetrate through the skin and get absorbed by the dark tattoo ink, while leaved the surrounding healthy skin unharmed.

A mild numbing agent may be used to keep the patient comfortable through the laser tattoo removal process. Laser energy will disintegrate the tattoo ink into tiny particles. Over the next few weeks, the body will absorb the ink fragments. Multiple laser treatment sessions are usually required to successfully remove permanent tattoos.

How does Laser Work?

Laser treatments are often recommended where the patient wants to avoid cosmetic surgery. Laser light wavelengths will be absorbed to the maximum limit in case of black and other deep dark colored tattoos. On the other, for colored tattoos, the provider will make use of selective lasers.

Laser procedure will be customized to match with the depth, color and quality of ink used in the tattoo. The provider’s goal will be to minimize the laser treatment and achieve optimal results without leaving obvious scars.

Tattoo Removal Procedure

Laser tattoo removal will typically involve the following steps:

  • The patient’s eyes are covered with a protective eye shield before the treatment begins.

  • The laser expert will test the reaction of skin to determine the optimal laser intensity.

  • Laser light will be activated once the hand piece is placed against the affected area.

  • Fewer laser pulses will be required in case of small or light tattoos, while other tattoos will require more pulses.

  • The treatment is repeated over multiple sessions, and the tattoo will become progressively lighter with each treatment.

The location of the tattoo, the extent of laser intensity, and the patient’s pain tolerance will be considered at the beginning to decide whether local anesthetic should be applied. Prolific and focused plastic surgeon Dr. Lin receives patients from West Covina, Inland Empire, San Gabriel Valley, Chino, Rowland Heights, Baldwin Park, Whittier, Brea, Arcadia, Pasadena, Diamond Bar, and other cities and neighborhoods in this part of The Golden State.

Recovery

Once the treatment session is over, the provider will place a patch or a bandage over the tattoo site. A topical antibiotic cream may be prescribed, and the patient will be instructed to use sun protection cream for several weeks. For a few hours or about one day, the treated area will have mild redness.

Patients can resume their normal activities immediately after the treatment in most cases. Five to 10 treatment sessions may be required to eliminate the tattoo pigment successfully, with each session spaced about 6-8 weeks apart.

How much does Laser Tattoo Removal Cost?

How much does Laser Tattoo Removal Cost? | Pasadena Plastic SurgeryLaser tattoo removal is a safe and effective way to get rid of unwanted permanent tattoos in any area of the body. The procedure involves no cosmetic surgery, and can be performed in-office. During the initial consultation, the treatment provider will discuss various aspects of laser tattoo removal, including its costs.

A committed provider’s first goal will be to educate the patient about the procedure and help them make an informed choice.

Board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Daniel Lin provides laser tattoo removal to patients in West Covina, Inland Empire, San Gabriel Valley, Chino, Rowland Heights, Baldwin Park, Whittier, Brea, Arcadia, Pasadena, Diamond Bar, and other cities and suburbs in The Golden State.

Price Variation

The sticker price of laser tattoo removal can vary from one patient to another even at the same practice due to a few reasons. The quality and nature of the tattoo will be unique in each case, and the laser expert will first evaluate the tattoo as well as the skin type and overall condition of the tattoo. Based on this evaluation, they will estimate the total number of treatment sessions it may require to eliminate the tattoo.

If the tattoo is in black or another deep dark color, it may be relatively easier to remove it because dark colors will absorb maximum laser light and work more effectively to break down the pigment. Green color tattoos are usually the hardest to eliminate. Similarly, people with darker skin may require special laser treatment to remove the tattoo without using cosmetic surgery.

If the tattoo was originally created using a recognized or quality ink, it may be easier to remove. The size and location of the tattoo are other factors to be considered. A large sized tattoo or a tattoo in a sensitive or difficult to reach location will require more effort for its removal. The treatment provider may charge for the procedure according to the total number of treatment sessions involved.

Other Factors Affecting the Price

The geographical location of the practice is an important factor that will impact the overall monetary amount of any cosmetic procedure.

If the practice is located in a main metropolitan area or a prime urban center, it will typically have higher real estate costs and higher overheads compared to another location in a small, interior town. This will have an influence on the overall costs charged by the practice for cosmetic procedures.

The skill and experience of the treatment provider is a vital factor, which will usually determine the fee charged by them. The quality and safety standards adopted at a particular practice, the type of laser technology and technique used at the practice, and the kind of facilities and services they provide will also have an impact on the overall costs.

Patients should ideally choose the best possible treatment provider to minimize their risk of scarring and other side effects that may occur with laser procedures. Dependable and fabulous plastic surgeon Dr. Lin receives patients from West Covina, Inland Empire, San Gabriel Valley, Chino, Rowland Heights, Baldwin Park, Whittier, Brea, Arcadia, Pasadena, Diamond Bar, and nearby areas for laser tattoo removal.

Your Breast Implant Surgery Consultation

Your Breast Implant Surgery Consultation | Pasadena | Chino | BreaIn a major cosmetic surgery such as breast implants, pre-op consultation will lay down the framework for a successful procedure. Breast implant surgery is one of the more customizable procedures, which makes it important for the patient to get actively involved with all aspects of surgical decision making.

During the consultation, the surgeon will closely engage with the patient to seek her inputs and to address her concerns and doubts about the procedure. They will educate the patient on all aspects of the surgery.

Board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Daniel Lin provides breast implants to patients in West Covina, Inland Empire, San Gabriel Valley, Chino, Rowland Heights, Baldwin Park, Whittier, Brea, Arcadia, Pasadena, Diamond Bar, and surrounding communities.

Determining Candidacy

For a major procedure such as breast implants, the surgeon will examine the patient’s general health status and review her past medical records. They may order specialized mammograms in certain cases. The patient’s skin type and amount of skin laxity in the breast area will also be noted along with an assessment of her overall breast anatomy.

Vital Decisions

Some important decisions about the surgery, such as the choice of implant type and size, the type of surgical technique, the incision location, placement of implants, and whether the procedure will be performed as a standalone surgery or combined with breast lift, will be made during the initial consultation process.

Choice of Breast Implants

The selection of implants is a key decision that will affect the final outcome of the breast augmentation surgery. The surgeon will explain the pros and cons of different types of implants, the range of available sizes, shapes and profiles, and help the patient make the most appropriate choice.

Placement of Implants

The patient will usually have the option to have the implants placed below the pectoral muscle or submuscularly, or in front of the pectoral muscle or subglandularly. The advantages and limitations of both options will be explained to help the patient make the right decision according to her specific breast anatomy and her personal cosmetic goals.

Incision Location

Incisions in case of breast augmentation surgery are usually located below the breast crease, along the border of the areolas, or in the underarm area. Experienced plastic surgeon Dr. Lin receives patients from West Covina, Inland Empire, San Gabriel Valley, Chino, Rowland Heights, Baldwin Park, Whittier, Brea, Arcadia, Pasadena, Diamond Bar, and other cities in this part of the country for breast implants.

Developing Expectations

During the consultation, the surgeon may present breast augmentation before and after images to help the patient develop realistic expectations. The patient can make a better decision when she knows exactly what the procedure can or cannot do for her.

Preparatory Instructions

If the patient is a smoker, she will be clearly instructed to refrain from smoking for a specified period of time before the breast implant surgery. Some of the ongoing prescription and non-prescription drugs and supplements of the patient may have to be re-scheduled in consultation with the physician. Costs and financing aspects will also be clearly discussed at the time of initial consultation.

Breast Implant Plastic Surgery Risks and Safety

Breast Implant Plastic Surgery Risks and Safety | Pasadena | ChinoAccording to the American Society of Plastic Surgery (ASPS) statistics, breast augmentation currently ranks as the number one cosmetic surgery procedure in the US. Improvements in surgical techniques and advanced, FDA approved implant qualities have made the procedure safer than ever.

However, certain risks still remain associated with breast implants, in addition to the risks that are typical to any surgical procedure. Board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Daniel Lin provides breast implants to patients in West Covina, Inland Empire, San Gabriel Valley, Chino, Rowland Heights, Baldwin Park, Whittier, Brea, Arcadia, Pasadena, Diamond Bar, and surrounding locations.

Implant Related Risks

Breast augmentation involves surgical placement of saline or silicone implants. Risks related to implant performance are unique to this surgery.

Capsular Contracture

Once the implants are placed in the breast tissue, the natural immune response will lead to scar tissue formation around them. Sometimes the scar tissue may become unusually hard or contract tightly, putting excessive pressure on the implants.

If the implants get squeezed due to the hardening scar tissue, they can lose their shape or move from their position. The outer implant shell may also get damaged. Harder breast capsule may also cause pain. The patient may require a breast implant replacement cosmetic surgery to correct the condition.

Implant Rippling

The patient should choose the implant size appropriate to the amount of breast skin available to cover the implant. If the implant size is excessively large, the implant may develop creases or folds, causing a ripple effect on the surface and distorting breast appearance.

To minimize this risk, the patient should choose the appropriate implant size and shape in consultation with the surgeon. Experienced plastic surgeon Dr. Lin receives patients from West Covina, Inland Empire, San Gabriel Valley, Chino, Rowland Heights, Baldwin Park, Whittier, Brea, Arcadia, Pasadena, Diamond Bar, and other communities and cities in this section of Southern California for breast implant surgery.

Implant Damage or Shifting

The implant may sometimes move away from its original position just after the surgery has been performed. The risk of displacement increases in case of larger implants, while the risk of implant rupture or damage is equal in all sizes of implants.

If a saline implant ruptures, the patient will be able to note the condition immediately because the implant will deflate. But with saline implants, the rupture may only get noticed during an MRI exam. Breast revision surgery may be necessary in case of implant damage.

Surgery-related Risks

Infection

All types of surgeries have some risk of infection. A completely hygienic and sterile environment should be maintained at the surgical venue to reduce the risk. The surgeon may prescribe antibiotics after the surgery to mitigate the post-op infection risk.

Numbness in Nipples

Numbness, sensitivity, or change of sensation in the nipple area may take place after breast augmentation surgery. The condition will usually resolve on its own, but in rare cases, numbness may get prolonged or become permanent.

Unfavorable Scarring

While some amount of scarring is unavoidable after breast implant surgery, discreetly placed incisions can help to camouflage the scars to a significant extent.

Instructions for Preparation

Patients who smoke will be required to refrain from smoking for at least a few weeks before the facelift surgery. Tobacco smoke contains nicotine, which can hinder the flow of oxygen in the blood. This can increase the patient’s risk during the surgery and also delay the healing process.

The patient will be required to list down all the prescription and non-prescription drugs, including herbal supplements and vitamins, which they may be currently taking. The surgeon may stop or alter the schedule of some of the medications in consultation with the prescribing physician.

As part of the preparation, the patient should have a balanced diet and increase the intake of lean proteins in the diet. They should also follow a regular exercise regimen in the weeks preceding the facelift cosmetic surgery. Good fitness levels will make it easier to sustain the procedure and recover faster.

Health Evaluation

The surgeon will examine the patient’s general health condition, and assess their amount of skin laxity in the face and neck area. Skin type, facial fat pockets, condition of underlying facial muscles, and the strength of the facial bone structure will also be checked. The surgeon will review the patient’s medical records and ask questions about their current health.

The surgeon will also like to know about the patient’s specific cosmetic goals with regard to their facial appearance. The patient should be prepared to share all relevant facts in a transparent manner with the surgeon so that appropriate preparatory steps can be taken.

Customized Facelift Surgery Plan

The surgeon will create a customized facelift surgery plan to meet the patient’s personal cosmetic requirements in the best possible manner. The plan will determine:

  • The type of facelift surgery technique to be used

  • The choice of anesthesia

  • Size and location of incisions

  • How the incisions will be closed

  • The selection of surgical venue

  • The estimated duration of surgery

  • Whether additional surgeries such as neck lift, cheek implants, eyelid lift or brow lift may be required

  • Whether an overnight hospital stay may be necessary

  • Plan for recovery

To prepare well in advance, the patient should also arrange for someone responsible who can drive them back home after the surgery. Questions to Ask Your Eyelid Plastic Surgeon (Blepharoplasty)

Questions to Ask Your Eyelid Plastic Surgeon (Blepharoplasty) | BreaDuring the initial consultation for eyelid cosmetic surgery, the patient will have the opportunity to ask questions and clarify their concerns about the procedure and the surgeon’s practice. A dedicated surgeon will provide accurate and detailed answers to the questions to help the patient make an educated decision.

The patient should ideally note down the questions in advance and carry the list to the surgeon’s office for the pre-op consultation. Board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Daniel Lin provides eyelid surgery to patients in West Covina, Inland Empire, San Gabriel Valley, Chino, Rowland Heights, Baldwin Park, Whittier, Brea, Arcadia, Pasadena, Diamond Bar, and surrounding communities.

Do you have a board certification in plastic surgery?

Eyelid surgery is a delicate procedure, which should ideally be performed by a fully trained and experienced surgeon. Patients should preferably choose a surgeon who is board certified in plastic surgery. These surgeons would have undergone a minimum of three to five years of medical training, including at least two years exclusively in the field of plastic surgery.

Do you have past experience in performing eyelid surgery or facial procedures?

Sometimes a surgeon may have extensive experience in several procedures of the breast and body, but may not be well-versed with upper face cosmetic surgery procedures such as eyelid lift. The patient should ideally choose a surgeon who has a close understanding of the facial and eye anatomy, and has adequate training and experience in performing surgeries in these areas.

Such a surgeon will be able to introduce customization to make the procedure more targeted and less invasive according the patient’s unique needs.

Where would you perform my eyelid surgery procedure?

Eyelid surgeries are typically performed at hospitals, accredited surgery centers or sometimes at a private surgical suite. Each surgery venue will present its own benefits and limitations as well as have different costs associated with it. The patient should also check whether the surgeon is affiliated to one of the local hospitals so that they can have hospital access in the rare event of an emergency.

Would you use general or local anesthesia?

The surgeon may decide to perform eyelid surgery using general anesthesia or local anesthesia with sedation. The patient should also know whether anesthesia would be performed by an anesthesiologist or a nurse anesthetist, and would they remain present in the surgery room throughout.

What will be the cost of eyelid surgery?

Eyelid surgery is usually performed for cosmetic purposes, and the patient will have to pay out of pocket for it. Therefore, they should clarify the cost aspects at the first appointment, and have a clear estimate of all costs, including pre- and post-operative expenses.

What are the potential risks and complications?

To make an informed choice, the patient should know in advance the typical risks and complications that may be associated with eyelid surgery. Experienced plastic surgeon Dr. Lin receives patients from West Covina, Inland Empire, San Gabriel Valley, Chino, Rowland Heights, Baldwin Park, Whittier, Brea, Arcadia, Pasadena, Diamond Bar, and other suburbs and cities in this region of Southern California for eyelid surgery.

Weeks before the Surgery

If the patient has a habit of smoking, they will be required to give it up completely for at least two to three weeks prior to the eyelid surgery. The patient should ideally reduce or stop alcohol consumption as well a few days prior to eyelid cosmetic surgery. Smoking, in particular, poses greater risk because the nicotine will restrict the flow of oxygen in the blood and interfere with healing.

If the patient is taking certain nutritional and herbal supplements, such as vitamin E or ginseng, the surgeon will instruct them to stop their use for a certain time period prior to the surgery. The use of blood thinners such as aspirin and NSAIDs will also have to be stopped for a specified period of time. These drugs can increase the risk of bleeding during the surgery.

In some cases, the schedule of prescription drugs may also be altered in consultation with the primary care physician. The doctor may recommend safer alternatives for certain drugs and supplements. Accomplished plastic surgeon Dr. Lin receives patients from West Covina, Inland Empire, San Gabriel Valley, Chino, Rowland Heights, Baldwin Park, Whittier, Brea, Arcadia, Pasadena, Diamond Bar, and nearby areas for eyelid surgery.

Pre-Surgery Arrangements

The patient can make a few simple arrangements prior to the eyelid surgery, which will help to ensure an easier recovery. They should ideally stock up the following items at home:

  • Clean washcloths

  • Clean bowl for cold water

  • Ice cubes

  • Plastic bags for ice packs

  • Bottle of artificial tears

  • Sterile gauze pads

  • Extra pillows to keep the head raised

  • Groceries for a few days

The patient should have someone to drive them back home once the eyelid surgery is completed. They should preferably also have someone to stay overnight for assistance, or may arrange for professional aftercare. On the night prior to the surgery, the patient should sleep well. They should refrain from eating or drinking for about eight hours before the surgery time.

The Day of Surgery

A few simple tips may be followed on the day of the surgery:

  • Wash the hair and eyebrows

  • Do not wear any makeup or cosmetics

  • Avoid wearing jewelry, piercings, false eyelashes, or contact lenses to the surgery center

  • Wear loose fitting, comfortable clothes

Any essential prescription drugs on the morning of the surgery may be taken in consultation with the surgeon.
